The history of DALTON begins with a woman and her passion for beauty and the sea. In nearly four decades full of pioneering spirit and enthusiasm, Erika Bauer makes her dream come true to have a unique care line recalling human evolution; based on the knowledge that all life originates from the sea. With the purchase of the brand Dalton in 1976, she lays the foundation for the development of professional care cosmetics. Ever since, the name Dalton has been known for high-quality care products developed and made in Germany.
Inspired by a conviction, which is otherwise only known from Jacques Cousteau, the great French pioneer of marine research, Erika Bauer consequently starts to make her dream come true to make the best ingredients from the sea usable for the beauty of the skin and thus closing the circle of evolution. Always according to her principles: The primeval power of the sea for the beauty of your skin.
It is the hour of birth for DALTON
At a time in which galenics was at its very beginning, we owe it to Erika Bauer’s knowledge and power of deduction that in the coming decades a lot of new care products could be developed for different skin types. She always sticks with her credo – tolerability along with effectiveness based on scientific knowledge and sustainable production.
1984: celumer – a masterpiece of Anti-Aging care
Erika Bauer delivers her masterpiece by developing the first marine Anti-Aging line, which is known under the name celumar in 1984, later in 1989 under the name celumer (“celumer” is a play of words, using the word “cell” and “meer” [englisch = sea]). The name says it all: In a unique way it symbolizes the idea that the human being originates from the sea, that we carry the sea in our bodies and that we need the sea for natural beauty. Over the years the celumer product line became bigger and it leaves nearly nothing to desire. Even nowadays it is one of our most popular lines and contains true beauty treasures like the Beauty Mask or the celumer “Wedding” Ampoule.
from 1984: Professional Cosmetics
As a product developer, Erika Bauer seeks the company of professional beauticians from the very beginning. She is convinced that highly effective products have to be presented by qualified beauticians in order to provide for the right application and optimal results. Early on (1983) she begins to put the main focus of the whole care concept on professional institute cosmetics. She considers training as crucial, hence over the years several thousand beauticians have been trained by Erika Bauer in the field of marine cosmetics and its active ingredients. The close contact with beauty salons creates a lot of new ideas for the development of professional in-salon treatments such as the Vital Lift Lifting Treatment (1996) or the individually prepared Hydro Alga Thalasso Treatment (1998) with the pure power of spirulina algae for a special moisture boost.
from 1986: From problem solvers to cosmeceuticals
From the close relation of ingredient know-how and daily application experience a new care concept arises in the mid-eighties; the so called “Cosmeceuticals”. Due to the increase of diseases of modern society the demand for care products which are especially adjusted for problem skin rises. In 1986 the first “problem solving” lines, Difficile pour Couperose, for skin prone to redness and couperose as well as the Dermanom line for skin prone to impurities and acne are introduced to the market. In 1987 the first version of the current Natural Correcteur line comes out; formerly known under the name Correcteur Vitamin-A Cosmetic. “When nothing else will work, Natural Correcteur will”, a statement which is lived by beauticians worldwide and loved by customers for the promise it keeps.
In the mid-80s: DALTON becomes international
The development of the last four decades has been very rapid – both in Germany and abroad. Since the middle of the 1980s, the success of the brand DALTON isn’t just limited to the German-speaking market. At this point two business relationships are entered into with Switzerland and Cyprus. Shortly after, at the end of 1980, the first cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, as the first country of the Middle East, begins. In the early 90s distribution contracts with our Asian partners Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea follow. The interest in our professional brand “made in Germany” grows quickly and by now DALTON is sold in over 35 countries worldwide.
from 2001: DALTON – a broad care system for every skin type
Nowadays DALTON offers a wide range of 20 lines consisting of 150 products with selected maritime ingredients for the health and care of the skin. The ongoing investments in research and development have led to a lot of new revolutionary developments in the last decades (such as the Q10 line in 2001 and the Booster Hyaluronic Urea line in 2011). It also contributes to continuous improvements of our well-proven products.
from 2012: New generation – DALTON sails with a new captain
After many decades of successful work in the cosmetics industry, Erika Bauer takes her deserved retirement in 2012 and hands over the “steering wheel” to the new firm owner and CEO Albrecht von Alvensleben. With the wind of change and an ambitious crew consisting of long-term employees and experienced newbies, DALTON conquers the seven seas from its headquarters in Germany. The dynamic development is also noticeable in our product developments. In 2013 a new star is born. With the S.E.A. Skin Essential Activator Cream new standards are set for the protection and stimulation of the epidermal stem cell. Inspired by the latest knowledge from science and research combined with nearly 40 years of experience in development and application of professional marine cosmetics, DALTON wows professionals and end consumers throughout the world once again.
